Gloucester Tops Road While the recent wet weather may have caused havoc for MidCoast Council road crews, nothing can put a dampener on the completion of an extensive upgrade to Gloucester Tops Road.

As part of the Gloucester roadworks program, a 1.5km section of Gloucester Tops Road was reconstructed to include laying of a new pavement and sealing the old gravel road, installation of guideposts and an improved drainage system.

“Our focus was on providing a safer travel route for both locals and the many tourists that visit Barrington Tops each year”, explained Claire Shultz, MidCoast Council’s Works Engineer, Operations (North).

“A sealed finish not only provides a smoother drive, it also means we avoid the on-going maintenance costs associated with gravel patching”.

Gloucester Tops Road provides access to the popular Barrington Tops area, Australia’s highest subalpine region outside the Australian Alps.

This upgrade was funded by the Australian Government Roads to Recovery Program through the former Gloucester Shire Council’s road improvement program, and is part of MidCoast Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure throughout the region.
